The following titles are being released on Tuesday, Oct. 6, unless otherwise noted:
Peter Asher: Everywhere Man (Blu-ray)
Details: 2025, Kino Lorber-Greenwich Entertainment
Rated: Not rated
The lowdown: Peter Asher has had a long and varied career. He began as a child actor, became part of the hit rock duo Peter and Gordon before beginning a successful career as a manager and record producer.
Asher helped advance the recording careers of James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt and others.
He worked for various record companies, including The Beatles’ Apple Records and Sony Music Entertainment, and managed various bands and musicians.
Throughout the decades, he has continued to occasionally perform and host various radio programs.
The documentary, which features interviews with Paul McCartney, Natalie Merchant, Carole King, Lyle Lovett, Steve Martin and Eric Idle and others, is a thorough and delightful look at musical history and Asher’s place in it.
Technical aspects: 1080p high definition, 1.78:1 widescreen picture; English 5.1 and 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio; English SDH subtitles.
Don’t miss: Bonus options include additional scenes with Asher, King, Merchant and others.

Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass (Blu-ray)
Release date: Sept. 22
Details: 2026, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment-Allied Vaughn
Rated: R, sexual content, violence, bloody images, language
The lowdown: Small-town hairdresser Gail Daughtry (Zoey Deutch) is engaged to her devoted high school sweetheart, Tom (Michael Cassidy).
But her life — and their romance — hits a speed bump when a trip to a book signing leads Tom to meeting — and sleeping with — his “celebrity pass.”
The betrayal upends Gail who impulsively joins her friend, Otto (Miles Guiterrez-Riley), on a trip to Los Angeles. There, Gail meets a psychic who tells her the only way to save her wedding is to “even the scales” with her own celebrity pass.
For Gail, that is actor Jon Hamm, which sets her on an odyssey through Hollywood with Otto. They join forces with a talent agency assistant, a paparazzo and actor John Slattery — all searching for Hamm.
On their journey, they bump into celebrities as well as being hunted by a group of Italian assassins as they get near to finding the elusive Hamm.
The movie earned a decent 78 percent fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes.

Technical aspects: 1080p high definition, 2.39:1 widescreen picture; English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and 5.1 Dolby digital audio description track; English SDH, English, French and Spanish subtitles.

Marked Woman (Blu-ray)
Release date: Sept. 29
Details: 1937, Warner Archive Collection-Allied Vaughn
Rated: Not rated
The lowdown: Bette Davis heads the cast in this Warner Bros. crime drama about a group of nightclub-gambling casino “hostesses” — Hollywood code for call girls-prostitutes — who work for a ruthless crime boss, in which the games of chance are not on the up and up.
The movie was the first for Davis after her legal battle with the studio for better projects. “Marked Woman” is not one of those, but movies such as “Jezebel” and “Dark Victory” were on her horizon.
In “Marked Woman,” she portrays Mary who along with Lola Lane’s Gabby, Isabel Jewell’s Emmy Lou, Rosalind Marquis’ Florrie and Mayo Methot’s Estelle, work for cold-hearted gangster Johnny Vanning (Eduardo Ciannelli).
Crusading district attorney David Graham, played by Humphrey Bogart in a rare good-guy role, tries to convince the women to testify against Vanning.
When Mary’s younger sister, Betty (Jane Bryan), is killed by Vanning at a party, Mary turns on him and, for her efforts, her face is scarred. Mary then leads the other women to testify against Vanning, who is convicted.
The cast also includes Allen Jenkins, Ben Welden, John Litel and Raymond Hatton.
“Marked Woman” can be purchased at www.moviezyng.com or other online sellers.
Technical aspects: 1080p high definition, 1.37:1 (with side mattes) full-screen picture; English 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio monaural; English SDH subtitles.
Don’t miss: Extras include a “Ripped from the Headlines” featurette and two classic Warner Bros. cartoons, “Porky’s Hero Agency” and “She Was an Acrobat’s Daughter.”

Sex and the Emperor (Blu-ray)
Details: 1994, 88 Films
Rated: Not rated
The lowdown: This tale of romance, palace intrigue, lots of sex and a bit of torture is told through the eyes of Li, a servant who isn’t the eunuch he is meant to be.
Li has become a very important tool of the emperor’s whims — be it aiding his voyeuristic indulgences, navigating the perilous politics and concubines and rivals or accomplishing covert missions beyond the palace walls.
Li finds himself caught between survival and complicity in a world ruled by unchecked authority. And as alliances quicky alter and tensions rise, “Sex and Emperor” reveals a court driven as much by lust and manipulation as by power and control.
The movie is explicit and satirical, a highlight of 1990s Hong Kong exploitation cinema, combining historical settings with boundary-pushing erotic storytelling.
Technical aspects: 1080p high definition, 1.78:1 widescreen picture; Cantonese 2.0 and English (dubbed) LPCM monaural; English subtitles.
Don’t miss: Extras include a commentary track by Hong Kong film expert David West and an interview with James Mudge.

Convoy (Blu-ray)
Details: 1978, Kino Lorber Studio Classics
Rated: PG, language
The lowdown: The CB craze created a new subgenre of films in the 1970s centering on wise-cracking drivers and truckers outwitting the law — especially corrupt or dim-witted sheriffs.
One of those movies was “Convoy,” directed by Sam Peckinpah and starring Kris Kristofferson, Ali MacGraw, Ernest Borgnine and Burt Young.
“Convoy,” based on the hit song, tells the story of Kristofferson’s Martin “Rubber Duck” Penwald and his longtime feud with Sheriff Dirty Lyle “Cottonmouth” Wallace (Borgnine).
To outwit the sheriff, “Rubber Duck” unites scores of his fellow truckers using Citizen Band radio, to join a mile-long convoy which, powered by pent-up frustrations and resentments as much as by diesel fuel, rolls along Arizona highways towards the freedom of the Mexican border.
The cast also includes Seymour Cassel, Madge Sinclair and Franklyn Ajaye.
Technical aspects: 1080p high definition, 2.35:1 widescreen picture; English 5.1 and 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio; English subtitles.
Don’t miss: Extras include three commentary tracks — one by filmmaker-historian Steve Mitchell, a second by Peckinpah and historians Paul Seydor, Garner Simmons and Nick Redman and a third by Peckinpah scholar-filmmaker Mike Siegel; a documentary about the making of the movie; a video essay by Siegel; four featurettes; and a trio of deleted scenes.

Blades of the Guardians: Wind Rises in the Desert (4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray)
Details: 2026, Well Go USA Entertainment
Rated: R, strong and bloody violence
The lowdown: Martial arts icons Wu Jing, Nicholas Tse, Max Zhang and Jet Li star in this epic wuxia adventure through the desert.
Bounty hunter Dao Ma (Wu Jing) takes a job escorting the empire’s most wanted man, Zhi Shi Lang, to the city of Chang’an.
As word spreads about the wanted man, Dao Ma’s group is hunted by warriors across the land, as various factions fight for the prisoner.
Director Yuen Woo-ping fills the screen with spectacular, choreographed fight sequences.
And while some of the characters are not fully developed, the action compensates for this minor shortcoming.
Technical aspects: 4K: 2160p ultra-high definition, 2.39:1 widescreen picture; Mandarin Dolby Atmos, 7.1 Dolby TrueHD, English (dubbed) and Spanish (dubbed) 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio; English, traditional and simplified and French subtitles; Blu-ray: 1080p high definition, , 2.39:1 widescreen picture; Mandarin Dolby Atmos, 7.1 Dolby TrueHD, English (dubbed) and Spanish (dubbed) 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio; English, traditional and simplified and French subtitles.
Don’t miss: Extras include four behind-the-scenes featurettes: The Essence of Wuxia, Those Who Ascend the Mountain, The Guardian Squad and The Return.

Scream a Little Dream 3-D (Blu-ray)
Release date: June 8
Details: 2025, Cliffhanger Productions
Rated: Not rated
The lowdown: Filmmaker T.J. Moore, who I have known for several years through our mutual enjoyment of old-time movie serials, produced, wrote and directed this feature-length version of his original short film.
The movie centers on Jessica, a young woman who feels responsible for the death of her friend, Chrissy, after a night of drinking by the pair.
Jump ahead, six months and we find that Jessica is haunted by nightmares that continually wake her.
Her roommate, Kay, and a psychiatrist friend, Marie, are trying to help Jessica cope as well as analyze her nightmares.
Other characters include Linda, Chrissy’s bitter mother who blames Jessica for her daughter’s death; her son, John, a friend of Jessica and Kay; and Fred Stevens, a private investigator.
In her dreams, Jessica is menaced by a masked killer coming after her. Is that person real or a figment of Jessica’s guilt-ridden imagination?
The nightmare sequences are suspenseful, but somewhat repetitive.
The finale’s major twist will have you re-examining what you saw beforehand.
The Blu-ray has some sound issues and the camera work is a bit shaky, which is what you may expect from a home-made feature.
But you have to applaud Moore’s passion for his feature, made on a micro, shoestring budget. To really see Moore’s vision of the movie, you will need 3-D glasses for best results, though you have the option of watching it in standard 2-D.
Technical aspects: 16:9 picture; English audio.

The Haunted Cop Shop (Blu-ray)
Details: 1987, 88 Films
Rated: Not rated
The lowdown: A horror-comedy co-written by Wong Kar-wai before he directed such arthouse favorites as “Chungking Express” and “In the Mood for Love.”
The movie is set in a police precinct that was previously a meeting place for Japanese soldiers during the war. The spirits of those who died there are restless and looking for living victims.
It is up to two slacker police officers to silence the unquiet dead one more time.
The movie offers some wicked humor and supernatural shenanigans as the two cops must handle increasingly bizarre and dangerous ghostly encounters. And as the hauntings grow more serious and dangerous, it becomes clear that surviving the night will require luck, ingenuity and a willingness to embrace the absurd.
“The Haunted Cop Shop,” directed by Jeffrey Lau, effortlessly shifts between spooky set pieces and broad, outrageous comedy. It is a strong example of Hong Kong cinema’s ability to marry horror and humor.
Technical aspects: 1080p high definition, 1.85:1 widescreen picture; Cantonese LPCM monaural; English subtitles.
Don’t miss: Extras include a commentary track by Asian cinema expert Frank Djeng, alternate and extended shots and a featurette by James Mudge about the movie.
